Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi guys,
Just have a quick few questions.
Firstly, does anyone know and good helmets that aren't too expensive and where I can buy them?
Secondly will it be more expensive to buy a ski helmet in a ski resort (Alpe d'Huez)?
Thanks!!

A google for helmets will come up with bucket loads of 'em, including places that sell them.
As to which one, all you really need is to know that they're CE certified. The extra features are generally all about regulating temperature!
Most important thing though is to try them on though. I went into a shop, where they had a device from some helmet manufacturer for measuring your head (although a tape measure would have performed an identical job!). My head measured 60cm, and I tried on five helmets from two manufacturers in that size, and only one of the helmets fitted comfortably!! So, the most important thing is nothing to do with brand or features, it's all about fit.
Of course, I shall be choosing a cool looking one, if I get a choice of ones that fit me well

DaKid, has it spot on regarding fit being the most important feature. They are all CE so brands mean nothing. I tried dozens at the ski show and only one, which was a brand I had never heard of, fitted. From my experience of last week in the PdS, things are more expensve in resort than at home.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Chris Bish, +1 You can try on loads the same size - even the same make - but only one fits well.

Slatz, Sadly you haven't bothered to fill in the Location bit of registration for snowheads so we don't know where you are
BUT if you are in the South of the UK the widest selection of helmets available in one shop is at Snowtrax in Christchurch Dorset (probably the biggest selection in the UK certainly a wider choice than in any resort) if you go there you can try on many different models to see which one fits you!
