Yes! There is the courtesy bus system running still. The rentals desks have all been moved in the arrivals bit, and the bus pulls up outside. Someone on here reported the other day that they found a charge on their credit card from Alamo, I think, for the bus - but it was booked through Holiday Autos and he got that charge credited back, but worth keeping an eye on that.

I was there today. Car hire is still at the new garage (P51). By the time you've walked to the new location for the car hire desks you are halfway to the garage itself. I walked today rather than catching the shuttle bus. Took about 5 minutes and was quicker than the shuttle.

Does anyone know if the new location is temporary or permanent?

I asked the rep on the Budget desk today and he said permanent. I got the same answer from an Alamo rep when I asked in November.

rob@rar, thanks, though that's a bit of a bummer, as the previous location was so convenient.

National Alamo will charge you for the shuttle bus. If you book with Holiday Auto's thy will refund, if you contact them.
It's not really a bus ride away, about 5/6 mins on foot if you have cabin bag only.

It is permanent - I asked too! It is walking distance if you bag has wheels or isnlt too heavy. There are several shuttle busses, but I can see it being a pain in February. January was fine when we went, though still not as convenient as the previous location. For those who know it, it is right next to the petrol station just along from the airport - about a 7-8 minute walk I would guess.

Best solution when it is busy must surely be for the driver to whizz out, do the business at the car hire desk and probably then walk along to collect the car and then drive it back to pick up the rest of the party and all the luggage that they will meanwhile have found.

Pamski, it's a bit of a hassle to drive out from the P51 garage, double back to re-enter the airport and find somewhere to meet the rest of your group. I walked from desk to garage in about 5 minutes when I collected a car a couple of days ago. It's not that a big deal, especially now that the rental desks have moved.

rob@rar - no I suppose not - I was thinking of people with loads of luggage and children all either trailing along or filling up the courtesy buses. We rarely fly now and then don't have luggage (well that is the theory, I usually end up with some sort of bag!). The walk to P51 must compare to that which we used to do in the days when easycar were at the garage in the other direction.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I think it's a bit closer than that.

You know it makes sense.

It really is an Easywalk - we spent 15 mins in the Q for the shuttle, and only when returning did we realise just how close it is.
Also when returning the car the petrol pumps in the World Trade Centre are very convenient, about 50yds before the garage. Credit card pumps tho', and unattended - I did need a local to show me how to use (card in, PIN, get petrol, card back in, get receipt)
I have no problem with the new arrangement now I know how to walk to the garage.

I fill up this side of Annemmasse (sp?) and have never had a problem with it not being full enough.

In the past we used to cram in as much fuel as we could 20 miles from geneva at the last service station en route then hope the needle wouldn't drop before we handed the car back. WTC pumps meant we didn't have to do that anymore. |
I used to do that as well, but with the new bit of autoroute I will no longer drive past the service station I used to use for this final refill. Will have to investigate the garage at the WTC.

We used those pumps last Dec. I haven't looked at that website, which might well say the same, but its worth noting that not every pump dispenses every fuel, so if you want petrol, make sure you don't stop at a diesel pump!!

We've always filled up a couple of minutes away from the airport.
If you drive round the back of the hire car garage and turn right at the lights you arrive in a built up area with hotels and a couple of petrol stations.
Might be worth bearing in mind if there's a problem with the other pumps referred to earlier.
