Okay, anyone managed to try these out yet? If so, any opinions (on either model). Or general opinions on whether I should buy or not? I have a huge leaning towards Volkls having had my current pair for a while now and having had a whale of a time on them. Whenever I've tried any others I've been dreadful (always blame the equipment  ). This of course is the downside that some mentioned of going to the Ski and Snowboard Show - too many opportunities to spend lots of money...

Like you I like my Volkl's, they are however about 4 years old. I have not tried the tiger sharks yet, dont want to either as it will probably make me put my hand in my pocket!!!! Will check them out some time no doubt. IMO a great ski.

They're getting great reviews, HOWEVER, they are narrow waisted - so if you're an off-piste skiier, perhaps not for you.

Maybe irrelevant now, but I've just got some! I've been skiing Volkl 5*'s, and was really looking for a direct replacement. The Tigersharks are a bit different, they're very easy to turn and really manouverable, still give great grip on icy surfaces. I was predisposed for a direct replacement for the 5*'s (which I believe is the AC3) but got these instead. The only place the 5*'s win for me was doing long turns on a wide, clear piste - the Tigersharks feel happier doing tighter turns.

I have the 10ft without the silly switch gizmo - they are great. You can ski sheets of ice on them if you are that way inclined, and they belt straight through lumps of slush instead of bouncing off them. They also appear to be perfectly adequate in powder, though I haven't explored this avenue to any significant extent. They do weigh a ton though - be prepared to have a sore shoulder from carrying them about.

skisimon, if you're really serious about Whistler next season, and you only want 1 pair of skis, then something with 78mm min underfoot would be a good Whistler ski.

skisimon, bought my wife a pair of the 12ft variety without gizmo before Xmas. Result? Result is that I see her from behind on any and all pistes. At the end of every run she says something to the effect that these skis are great and why don't I buy some for myself as well. So I thought, ok I'll take you into the deep and heavy stuff and watch you suffer. Here's the suffering

Sounds like there's a bit of a Tigershark fan club, I keep referring to them as 'Shark Attacks' by mistake

I got three pairs of skis into my Lockwoods double ski bag - I think it might be possible to get a fourth pair in but it would be pushing it... we were flying with Thomson Fly via Geneva and I thought there might be some muttering about the weight but they didn't quibble.

Hoppo, that's pretty much my line of thought, though I've spotted a nice Fischer three ski bag with pulling handle and wheels. I might contact a couple of airlines though and find out what the cost would be (if their desk staff did get funny...)

I rented a pair of 10's with the gizmo (didn't change the setting though) last week in Les Arcs. All I would add is that they do weigh a ton but your legs and arms will also grow to the strength of a great white shark despite skiing as gracefully as a tiger, boom boom. They are tremendous skis on and off-piste (limited though). I'm off again twice more this year so with EUs being so bad I'm probably going to buy some over there.

FAQ
The Tigersharks that I bought at the start of the season, the slalom skis I bought last week, a pair of cheap GS skis and some mid-fats. 
That must be painful to watch for non-Tigershark owning skiers.
