paulio, When I stayed there a few years ago we used the ski shop just to the left of the Klein-Matterhorn lift and they provided a good service, no idea on prices as the ski hire for my son was included in the holiday, but very convenient to where you're staying.

paulio, Flexrent ( Flexirent?) It is not close to your hotel but it is opposite the Sunegga lift on the opposite side of the river and they will not only store your skis for you if you wish; they will move them between there and their sister shop by the Klein Matterhorn overnight by request to save you lugging your skis.
The quality of gear is great and the prices are very reasonable. The staff are friendly and knowledgable. The Bloke will be hiring boots from there on Sunday morning. (Hee hee, can't wait!

I'm going to be staying out near the Sunnega Express so Hullite, thanks for recommendations at that end of the valley too. Its Flexrent

For E12, then you may aswell use the ones by the KM lift, theres a rental place in the lift from the bus stop up..which I think might actually be the Flexrent depot place..defo a good idea to store your skis if you're up the hill at all on that side.
I noticed a lot of flexrent stickers on skis so most be pretty good price wise, though don't have much experience on renting in Zermatt...plenty of places though.
Theres a Bus stop just by the Sunnegga shop for both KM and winklematten so pretty easy to get to on the bus from E12 aswell. (plus a bakery near by for cake aswell!)

paulio, Martin Nicholas, Flexrent it is. We have our own skis but last year we left our poles at home. Flexrent lent us some and refused to take any payment! (we took them a box of chocolates when we returned them on our last day). The skis we saw going out were good models and looked very well maintained; we were impressed by the care staff were taking in matching skis to ability and customer expectations.

This has all been too soon for me. How can I contain my excitement for another 14 weeks??
I know, the £ will have recovered some ground agains the ChFr by then. I was actually pretty miffed when they took the whole value of the apartment rental off my card in September, but now I'm glad that they saved me the 30% the exchange rate disaster would have cost me. That will pay for an upgrade to some tasty Volkl skis to buy at the end of the rental period from this nice hire shop.

It occurred to me last night that it would arguably be cost effective for me to buy skis, rather than rent this year given the exchange rate.
Then it occurred to me that this is the year I've decided to do 50% skiing and 50% boarding, so actually it wouldn't be cost effective at all.
Stupid adventurousness.

They seem good value compared to other Zermatt shops, but (at least for upper intermediate level skis with no boots), the cheapest I can find are through Skiset, using the j2s discount: http://zermatt.skiset.co.uk/j2ski/
