Richmond, and the park in particular, was looking like St Anton this morning. A bit; there were half a dozen skiers (downhill and x-country), a couple of boarders, a lot of sledgers and a few berks on mountain bikes, which looked like very hard work for very little reward.

richmond, did I bump into you? I was there in the park about 1pm (by Petersham gate) having skied the west face from near the Roebuck down towards the river a few times. I was wearing black with orange gloves and orange skis. Both places were packed with sledgers and were too short/flat to get enough speed to do meaningful turns.

Sideshow_Bob, I had left the park by then, after walking the dog and kids and doing a little light sledging over by Pembroke Lodge. The sledging had enormous potential for injury, but no-one appeared damaged.

richmond, ambulance was there and paramedics seemed to be picking up quite a few people while I was there. I nearly joined them by skiing a very lumpy run down from Pembroke Lodge over all sorts of mounds and holes under the snow. Tomorrow I need to find a much steeper slope in the park/nearby area to make the yomp from home (behind the Old Deer Park) worthwhile. Any suggestions?

I think you've treid the most likely spots. Temple Gardens and the field opposite the Roebuck are probably the steepest, then the bank in the park from Petersham Gate along toward Ham Gate. They're OK for sledging, but not much use for skiing; the park is very tussocky and would probably need several feet of snow to make it enjoyable. I can't think of anywhere else, I'm afraid.

Is Richomond park steeper than Primrose Hill? Also I would expect Primrose to be fairly smooth? Althpough to be honest xxxx knows what stumps poke out where.

plectrum, flat as a pancake Seems steep when there's no snow on it. Vids will be up shortly, demonstrating the tussocks richmond mentioned. I wish I had a touring ski setup, would've made today so much more enjoyable, especially the long-cut I ended up taking along the river then back through the deer park.

I would like to remind you all that this is offf piste and should not be taken lightly. I would not recommend going unless you have a transceiver, probe and shovel.
