Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Geneva airport to Swiss resorts - visa problem?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
My wife can travel to Switzerland without a visa, but not France (or other EU). If we transfer from Geneva airport to a Swiss resort is the coach likely to travel through France? Also, am I correct in thinking that Geneva airport has an exit which is actually in France?

I know this is a strange question but it could totally screw up our holiday!

Cheers.

xyzpaul, Ok from Geneva airport most people transfer to Swiss Resorts via train which only goes through Switzerland so no problems there if however you were going with a tour company it might be that their coach route could take you through France, the airport is effectively a bit of a no mans land, you enter through a Swiss customs/passport control (from airside), however you can leave via France or Switzerland

Thanks guys.

We haven't booked yet, but would be going with e.g Crystal so would be on a coach transfer. Thinking of Saas Fee, Villars, or 4Valleys at the moment.

xyzpaul, as DGO says, you'll be in Switzerland and will travel only through Switzerland. The French side of Geneva Airport is for people transferring into France.

xyzpaul, I'm just being nosy, but I'm intrigued what nationality your wife is that she doesn't need a visa for CH but does for EU?

eng_ch, without second guessing xyzpaul, my South African friend is in exactly the same position. I thought I read recently that Switz is joining Schengen and visas will then be needed.

eng_ch, thanks for breaking the bad news to us! Indeed a Schengen visa is now needed so the old "UK entry clearance = Swiss entry clearance" get-out for non-EU citizens has now gone. I did intend to check before booking, honest wink

On a more positive note, it allows us to broaden our horizons beyond just Switzerland for this ski trip. Just hope we can get a Schengen visa quickly! Does anyone have experience of visa times for France/Italy/Austria?

Paul
