The commentary gave the impression that they were skiing "out of bounds" in the USA.
Were they carrying transceivers, shovels and probes or was he simply very lucky to survive?

if they were being filmed through out the day then i would be willing to bet they had every sort of avalanche protection/survival gear around. And the commentary did seem to paint a picture of doom and gloom on all of the shots. Rather contradictory to the first shot which had who knows how many ski and board tracks coming down from the ridge

Wow, that avalanche bit was utter astounding. My mind is is still reeling about how he could ski out of that.
Although I'm still having trouble believing that Maier was capable of winning 2 golds at Nagano after his crash, and that was 8 years ago now
