Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

A friend of mine has moved to Bologna and has suggested skiing a few days in the appenines rather than the usual week in the Alps (truth be told, he wants to save a bit of money as well and as it happens my budget this year requires careful planning )
Are they worth a visit ?
Only time I can get away is week commencing 7th March - it this late season or not for such Southerly location?
Only 2 resorts/areas I can see are Cimone and Abetone - can anyone tell me what they're like and what towns would be best to stay in.
Is each reachable by public transport from the other ?
We've both got quite a few years skiing under our belts but not bothered about challenging skiing (espcially as I ruptured my achilles tendon 5 months ago, so I'm looking for some relatively soft-skiing ), just want some reaonable variety.

, I skied in Cimone a week ago - they had fantastic snow and have a considerable base which should keep them going through the season. We went to Cimone as Abetone tends to get very crowded at the weekend, as it is more accessible to the towns to the south. Cimone has mainly easy red runs which are nice to cruise.
I don't know about public transport as we drove there from Barga which is just over an hour away. We passed plenty of hotels, on route, so I don't think you will have a problem finding somewhere to stay. I'll try and post a picture, in meantime webcams of the region are
here.

nice photos - any idea how many days at Cimone (or indeed Abetone) you could do before you get bored?

, To be honest they are quite small resorts, Cimone has about 50 odd Km of piste. We probably skied most of it in the day we were there, so it would probably be ok for 2 or 3 days without becoming too boring. Abetone is not far from Cimone so might be an idea to do both in a week for a bit of variety.
