Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Lookin at the possibility of a family trip to Austria this Easter (11th to 18th April).

My three kids passports expire in June.

Am I right in thinking this may be a problem ? Seem to remember reading somewhere that you needed a minimum of 6 months remaining on your passport for it to be fully valid.

Or was I dreaming ?

burkeyblue, Only in some countries is that case. I wouldn't think it is in Austria. it isn't in Switzerland and France as I'm skiing there in february and easter and mine expires in June. Search on Google, I think it's the FCO site.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

IIRC you can renew the passports early and get the time added on to the new one.

I think you are fine to travel within the EU right up to the expiry date of your passport, but some more distant destinations (usually those that require a visa) insist on a passport with 6 months minimum remaining...

F&CO site says that EU passports are OK in Austria up to their date of expiry, others need 3 months left.

Elizabeth B, You're definitely right as I renewed mine several months before it was due to expire & had the extra months added onto the new one i.e. new passport lasts for about 10 years & 5 months

burkeyblue, Just checked the FCO site for you(link above) rolling eyes No problem for Austria(or Switzerland & France),passport just needs to be valid for the duration of your stay. There are oddities though...you need min 6mths for Belgium,so beware anyone driving through en route.
You have the time,so why not renew now?Unexpired time will be added on,up to 6mths.Its expensive but (a)you have no choice but to renew eventually, and (b)there's always the chance the price may have gone up by June(and the passport office will prob be busier then)

I can confirm it's ok. My passport expires in June and my daughters' in May - we just visited Germany/Austria and no problems.
