Poster: A snowHead
|
My partner and I are staying in La Tour, Chamonix at the end of Jan/early Feb for a week. We are mid 30's, I'm an experienced skier, she has had 1 week many years ago, so will in effect be starting again as a near beginner. Neither of us have skied the Chamonix valley at all.
Does anybody have any recommendations for ski schools/instructors in the area for my partner?
We'd look at private depending on value for money, but would consider groups too. It would also be handy if they can teach on the La Tour nursery slopes, at the beginning of the week. The ski bus into Chamonix/Argentiere could be a drag until she has found her feet a little and is ready to explore a bit more.
I'd appreciate any advice.

BASS Chamonix have some excellent instructors working for them, and I think they'll work from Le Tour.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Essex Alp, There is an ESF in La Tour. IMV Le Tour is a good choice as it's the best area for you to be able to meet at lunchtime as there should be enough to keep you happy plus gentler slopes for her lessons. I think Evolution2 will work there too. I assume that you won't be taking lessons (everyone should take lessons...) so private will probably imply she's on her own a little more - or you are investing a little more time in her improvement (as a skier, of course).
See what the ESF say, see what Evolution say. Although there is a bit of an independent non-ESF bias on here I know some very good ESF instructors and some not so good independents.

Call ESF Argentiere and ask to have Michel or Mary Lou Lehman. Have used them twice for friends with limited experience. Great feedback. Will come up to Le Tour. Or maybe the Evo ski school if your partner wants to meet English speaking people of the same level to ski with in the fternoon.
