We are looking at trying to get away earlier on Christmas Day if we can change our bookings withing the next couple of hours. Does anyone know for sure that they (at least the big ones) will be open. My gut feeling is that they will be but need more than my gut feeling!

Most of them will also have pay at pump chip and pin if they aren't manned anyway so shouldn't be a problem.

Just a warning - although I think many will be open don't rely on the chip and pin pumps - they frequently don't accept UK cards. Have been in this position before - you end up having to rely on the good nature of some poor french bloke and get them to fill up for you and give them the cash in return! Probably doable on the motorway but will raise your stress levels somewhat.

Dr George, A lot of the pumps were upgraded last season, I have not had problems using a UK card recently.

My cards worked fine over the summer at chip and pin pumps. Although the OH couldn't use her Barclays bank card at all while we were out there.
