Hi
I recently took the plunge and purchased a pair of skis after years of hiring in resort. I've just got back from an excellent week at Kaprun skiing the Kitsteinorn glacier. However on returning I wasn't sure if there is a correct way of storing the skis. Stood up, layed flat, binding open or closed, any preparation applied???
I'm going back to Austria at Christmas/New Year, Kitz and think of getting them tuuned when i'm there. s this too early?? any advise would be appreciated.

Good post and welcome to Snowheads.  I've just bought my first pair of skis but won't be using them until March. Sorry I can't help as I've been thinking what you have been thinking but there'll be plenty along in a moment to offer sound (mostly) advice.

Boyd, hi welcome to snowheads. There are different views but I store my skis on their tails bindings closed. Most important is to keep them dry to avoid rusting of the edges, a thick layer of wax can help this, also wipe any salt from the binding if you have had them on the roof of a car. Some shops completely de-tension the bindings over the summer. Avoid over tuning the skis, its good to keep the edges sharp and the bases waxed but dont over do the base grinds. Might be wise not to have the skis strapped tightly together with one of those Velcro type straps.

thanks Jbob, I've just checked the skis and they are already showing some signs of rust on the edges near the tails. I've cleaned this off and will follow your advise. many thanks, Boyd

I stand mine on their tails against the wall - helps me remember a main reason for working.

Not sure what skis you've got, but if you put it on here, I'm sure spyderjon will advise what edge angle you have (assuming they're still 'factory standard'). Then get a file holder of the required angle and a diamond file and just polish your edges back to sharpness - shouldn't need filing after a week on snow unless they've been dinged.
Then stick a layer of wax on and store upright and off the floor. Don't put the skis together as this will gradually take away the curve the ski has. A layer of Zardoz NotWax run over the edges will stop them rusting.
