My friend, who is staying in our apartment right now, transferred 175K euro to buy an identical apartment yesterday. He was convinced that would do the trick. He said he was on the phone to the forex dealer about a rate, and the guy was shouting "I can't hold that rate, you've got to commit NOW".
The whole transaction was so scarey he had to raid my booze cupboard to steady the old nerves.... He's not the kind of bloke who makes hasty financial decisions but he realised that in the time he'd been pondering this purchase - some weeks - the price in sterling had just climbed steadily. He had, however, been able to use this to negotiate the price down somewhat.
