Okay so here's the situation - looks like I'm not geting my lads ski trip this year but the snow looks too damn good to miss!
Plan:
Day 1
14:00 ~ Leave Kettering
16:00 - 17:00 ~ Catch flight from [blank] (Birmingham/Luton/East Midlands/Stansted all within 75 mins)
18:00 - 19:00 ~ Arrive at [blank] and hire car and drive to [blank]
20:00 - 21:00 ~ Check into [blank]
21:00 onwards ~ Apres-ski session of sorts
Day 2
08:00 - 16:00 ~ Ski
17:00 - 18:00 ~ Drive back to [blank]
20:00 - 21:00 ~ Flight home
24:00 ~ Arrive in Kettering
Anyone fancy a) filling in the blanks or b) joining me?

ski-finder, I'm doing something very similar this weekend, but flying from Brussels to Geneva very early Sat to get two days of skiing in - why not try that?
I'm still at the "blank" stage regarding the place to ski - hunting the best snow! You're not mad, this is perfectly normal

I did something very similar following the birth of my first born. Pass out was only granted for 2 days so flew 6am Luton to Geneva, drove to Morzine in A Class, skiing by 11.30. Met up with boys already out there, skiied till last lift, big session, first lift next morning, skiied hard all day, hot baguette, back in car, 20.30 flight home.
A compromise is always better than nothing at all and I loved every minute of it - well all except the copious percentage of travel time to ski time

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I agree with Ski Tyke I'm doing it on the 10th jan - except I'm staying for a week. But you can book onto Alpybus (I'm on the 10.30am one) if you want to save on the car hire - which will deliver you to your hotel anywhere you like in the Chamonix valley (journey about 1 1/4 hours or more if you are further up the valley). Get picked up by the last bus when you leave, however many days later you want (6.00pm for me but could be earlier if the bus passes your hotel earlier) in time for late flight back to Luton. Alpybus timetable here

ski-finder,
Not mad at all - normal in the household of me and Mrs MA.....Where a typical weekend trip with no time off work goes as follows (NB horizon's tip is a good one - get an early flight out on the Sat for 2 days' skiing!!):
Fri night: Drive to hotel near whatever airport has best flight times/prices: Best case scenario Liverpool/Manchester (2-2and a bit hours drive), worst case scenario Luton/Stansted/Heathrow (3.5 - 4.25 hrs). A couple of pre-ski beers and bed.
Sat am: Up at 03.30 -04.00; away on flight to Geneva, Salzburg,Turin, Milan, Munich or Genoa by 06.00-08.00; change into ski kit while waiting for luggage/skis at airport; jump into hire car; ski anything between 5 and 2 hours depending on snow/destination/transfer.
Sat evening: Grand night out - it's the last night of our trip!
Sun: Ski, ski, ski....
Sun evening: Fly home. Best case scenario: bed by midnight - worst case scenario pull away from Stansted at midnight and bed at 03.30.
Mon: Arrive at work with big grin - tired but feeling like we've had a week away (instead of a weekend at Ikea....)

mountainaddict, have you tried that one without Mrs MA?

IF you do the ski-weekends bus from London, you can have three days on the slopes in Meribel or Chamonix by only taking Thurs pm and Friday off work... The bus is a bit of a pain on the way back though...but you do get Fri, Sat and Sun on the slopes and can be back at work by 10:00 Monday!!!

ski-finder, No - holidayloverxx did a day trip to les arcs (via train) last season IIRC

You know it makes sense.
|
ski-finder, Why not get first flight out on day 1? That way you could get an extra half day skiing. Be up a bit earlier on the morning but you'll lose that day travelling anyway so makes sense to try and get something out of it.

If you go to www.skimorzine.com they do short breaks 2 to 4 days for a chalet hotel out of morzine they pick up from Geneva and drop you of half board loverly people. plus you get to ski the ports du soliel. save having to hire a car and find your grub.

ski-finder, Sorry but yes you are mad or more money than sense.
Weekends in general are great and I've done a lot of them, but a one day trip makes no real sense apart from a bit of kudos from being able to say to your mates you've done it.
Slope time per buck is off the scale. There are plenty of ways to spend the same or not much more money and get some real worthwhile slope time.
