New snow across the area this morning, 30th October 2008.
There has been some discussion on another thread about Selva specifically, but as different snowHeads will be visiting various resorts in this area this winter, I thought I'd start a more general thread for snow reports from any/all of the Dolomiti Superski areas to whet people's appetite and to keep an eye on conditions in this scenic corner of the Alps.
Here are some webcams to bookmark:
Selva & Val Gardena: http://www.val-gardena.com/en/plan-de-gralba/page97.html
Arabba: http://www.arpa.veneto.it/csvdi/svm/webarpav/arabba.htm

Check out the buttons on the left of some of the pages for more webcams and click to enlarge, and enjoy!!!

I wish people wouldn't put links on these sort of topics 'cos early (or late) in the season when you click on them the snow is nowhere to be seen. It's so disappointing !

dsoutar, hope the "frozen in time" image above from 1st Nov doesn't disappoint!

Snow right across the valley at Cortina, was looking decidedly autumnal yesterday, now winter has arrived (for a while at least!):

Apologies in advance for any who read this later on and the snow has disappeared

Snow Depth information for the Venetian Dolomites (Arabba, Cortina, etc) as reported by ARPAV 17/11/08:
2700m=100cm+
2000m=20-40cm
Snowcover continuous down to 1200-1400m on shaded slopes.
Today's webcam image is from Cinque Torri (above Cortina D'Ampezzo) showing the fabled 'enrosadira'- the pink tingeing of the dolomitic limestone buttresses as the sun goes down:

Snow cannons out in force at Plan de Gralba, near Selva, this morning, it must be mighty chilly:

This weekend's snow event coming in from the NW has produced cold temps but negligible snowfall across the Dolomites, snow cannons are out in force.
It seems that a disturbance drifting up from the SW will meet the cold air on Monday and produce up to 15cm of natural snowfall across the Dolomite peaks and right down to 400m in the valleys. Then sunny, cold and dry until Thursday:

Monday's weather brought 10-20cm of fresh snow at altitude across the region, snowcover right down into valley bottoms also. Huge piles of the man-made variety are visible on many webcams too.
Looking to Friday forecasts, another moisture-laden low drifts up from W Mediterranean into N Italy, promises some good snowfall as it meets cold air. With temps at or below freezing, snow is forecast in major N Italian inland cities such as Milan & Turin. When the system hits the mountains, it should produce more white stuff. Hoping for some in the Dolomites.

ickabodblue, head over towards Corvara and San Cassiano, there's some nice blues over that way and nice mountain restaurants.
It's really only the first pitch off the Porta Vescovo that's really daunting, particularly if it's a bit icy. By the end of the week, he'll be leaving you behind!

luigi, He already does i'm sure he'll be fine, he had to get down a reasonably steep red to get back to the hotel last year and he's had a load of lessons on the dry slope since then.
Thanks for the tips, I will take a trip over to Corvara and San Cassiano all the same.
But it really is too soon to get this excited!!!
