Hi all we are going to Wengen on the 26th of feb and i have read a lot about a very slow lift i think it is from grund [ could be a wrong spelling ] i've heard it described as painfully slow and taking half an hour to get up! so i just wondered if anyone can tell me if it has been upgraded or if it's still there how bad it is, thanks.

Hi andy,
I think you must mean to gondola from Grund to Manlichen. It takes about 20mins, but it is the longest in Europe, and it's nice to have a bit of a rest after skiing down from Manlichen!!!
Sit back and enjoy the best views in the Alps, (Eiger, Monch, Jungfrau etc.)

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The gondola from Grund to Mannlichen gets very busy at peak periods/weekends but as an alternative you can take get the new trains from Grund to Kleine Scheidegg which speed up the journey a bit and are very comfortable. Make sure you go to Brandegg for apple fritters during your trip. Wengen is a magical place, havea great holiday.

Yup, takes ages, but as mentioned, it's a nice rest after your legs are screaming from 8.5km of Blue run down from Kleine Scheidegg. Unfortunately, we did this blue all in one go twice, as I never seen DG Orf's message telling me about the apple fritters at Brandegg
You should get some nice shots of the mountain off that Gondola though.

Oohhhh, skilegs, the fritters at Brandegg are amazing, well worth a ski down there. Thanks for prompting the memory

andyarmitage, my suspicion is that in fact you mean the train from Grund to Kleine Scheidegg, which is painfully slop but then it does cover almost 10km, the Gondola from Grund to Mannlichen is a little faster but feels a lot faster as you are constantly moving not waiting at stations.

Long lift journeys = good foto opportunities/time to have a snack/time for a bit of love on the lift!

Inga, I have heard a rumour of a thing called the "three gondola challenge" in Whistler.
Robbie, you go to Whistler a lot, could you tell us why?
