what are the lifts like in the avoriaz and porte du soliel area are they quick or do they need updating
also what are the queues like for lifts around the 24th jan as this iis when i am heading out

If your first day is the 25th then there will be on average 28.7 people queing at the ski lift between 8.45 and 9.37. After 9.37 2 more people will turn up. Unless they sleep in.....

On the Swiss side (with the quaint non-detachable chairs), if you're in a queue, then it's cos you're waiting for your friends to catch up.
On the French side (with the modern high speed kit), expect some queues, most notably at the 2 lifts that cross over each other (forget the names).

Ditto, as long as you go outside the French school holidays you wont queue. Lifts on the main French sectors are modern and quick, Swiss side are rustic and charming as per the scenery

Yep, remember spending longer that I would like at this bit! Although 'queue' isn't quite the word I'd use to describe the experience
Maybe I was unlucky, but when I was over there outside school hols last season - queues were common.

Being slightly less obtuse than felllow  s I'd say that 24th Jan in PdS area you should be fine. Not French or UK holidays and most of the key links are now pretty swift modern lifts. Some spots are always bottle necks (bottom of Prodains) but otherwise as efficient - or more efficient - than most areas I have skied.

Trying not to be as sarcastic as some SH's on here.
I went in march 08 but stayed in morzine, i found all the lifts to be good and queues pretty much non existent. Albeit with one exception, there is a slow chair lift coming out of Avoriaz back into morzine i think it is called serrasuix which gives you a good chance to text your friends.
Otherwise great skiing great area, if the snow cover is good i would say make sure you go over the far side of morzine and do les gets there is some great skiing in a beautiful relaxed area.
Avoriaz side can be quite challenging les gets is relaxing (obviously it depends on your ability) but i would recommend the les gets area to anyone who has not been here before, it is a lovely area.
