Poster: A snowHead
|
I know it's late in the day, but can anyone recommend an English speaking B & B (my German is non existent) anywhere in the Ski Amade region that might have space for 2 adults and 2 children (aged 10 and 12) for 28 Dec to 4 Jan? Have never skied Austria before, have found some good flights, but despite trying the search functions on various the tourist office websites I am drawing a blank on finding any accommodation. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Have a look in the Trips forum as I'm sure someone posted offering some accommodation in Ski Amade recently (in the last 2 or 3 weeks I think).

The best sight I have found for Amade accomodation is tiscover.at, though there doesnt seem to be too much for New Year on there
Unless your really desperate for good communication with your hosts I wouldnt worry too much about the language, I've found the Austrians so welcoming that it has overcome any language difficulties - the high standard of the B&B's also means your likely to have far less to complain about than in certain Alpine countries I could mention
There are a few people on here (inc Flangesax who I stayed with for a cheeky weekend) - I assume you are in a car - would recommend this to get the most out of staying in this area - a different resort every day all within 20 minutes drive - 13 days to go

Try the search facilities on http://www.flachau.at or http://www.wagrain.at which are provided by Feratel, or try the Feratel website directly - http://www.feratel.com
A quick search via the Flachau site gave two apartments in Reitdorf, between Flachau and Altenmarkt - http://www.winterappartements.com/ shows English spoken, and €145 per night for a 2-bedroom apartment. The other has apartments at €80 and €90 per night, but English isn't stated.
In most cases, Google Translate can do a good enough job to handle e-mail exchanges, then on arrival you can get by - it's part of the experience, and a good spur to learn enough German to cope...

gamekeeper, I suggest you try www.skiamade.com and fill in the 'vacation planner' and you should get some replies. New Year is very busy so consider hiring a car which will widen your accommodation options as you might not be able to find somewhere on a bus route. Dont worry about English speaking hosts - most can manage some English and you wont have any probs with ski hire, ski instructors, mountain huts etc. We have a houseful of Scots for New Year - sorry - no room at the inn! Good luck with your search and PM me if you have any q's!
Thanks nickH, a.j., Smokin Joe, for the recommendations.
PS Reitdorf is a good option - its on a bus route to Flachau plus other areas.
