Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

On-piste moose cuts loose at US ski area [shaky video]

A cafe-skier at Steamboat in Colorado, filming a little girl running around ski racks, suddenly got more interested in a moose running up a piste.

Here's the video [and report from denverpost.com]. Warning: the music is like moose-sick

Quote:
For the most part, skiers on camera at Steamboat did the right thing, giving the moose plenty of space and not trying to get too close or aggressively interact with it.

"They're a larger animal, and they are not typically afraid of people," Randy Hampton, a Colorado Division of Wildlife spokesman, said of moose. "Because of their tolerance, people can sometimes get too close."

Indeed. What would you do if you were skiing towards a moose?

Ski away from it probably, although I am told that they can run really fast and nothing gets in their way as they are about twice the size of a cow.

I skiied in Jackson Hole several years ago. A resort worker stopped us going down one of the trails through the trees as there was a moose enjoying that area. It was a big animal. The journey between the airport and the town of Jackson Hole took us through part of a huge wild animal reserve. From the road we could see thousands of animals, not really sure what but some mix of moose, elk, raindeer and so on.

Those are elks. There's an elk wintering ground right outside of town.
