Can any one tell me how busy the road through Montgenevre is? We are thinking of taking a chalet opposite the Chalmettes Gondola on the road and I am worried about noise. Do lorries use it at night?

Mayfield, Welcome to snowHeads!
I went there 7 years ago, the road was quite busy during the day, but AFAIR eased off at night. I think they have since built a tunnel for the road so village centre isn't blighted any more.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Mayfield, should be fine now as the road is diverted from the village centre under a tunnel.

Mayfield, just checked a map of the village, if your chalet is opposite the Chalmettes, the road is still on the surface there.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Mayfield, There is not enough serious traffic to irritate you. The tunnel comes out near the Chalmettes Telemix.
I wouldn't worry about it.

It is a great resort - very scenic with lots of character and lovely runs through the trees (and loads of off piste possibilities). Also small and village-like with some old buidings, not a massive Benidorm style resort like some of the others. Much the best of the Milky Way area, I think, though a bit of a journey to the far end, if you want to ski it all.

In our ancient copy of "where to ski " it said there was a busy road through Serre Che, down the road. We did find there was traffic, which there is at the main peak hours you'd expect, but not continually and certainly not at night, so I would say it would be the same for Montgenevre.
It is the main pass to Italy but I wouldn't say that the road was blighted with pantechnicons. We stayed in a hotel in Briancon situated on the lower reaches of that road and slept the sleep of the dead [though it was end of holiday balcony party night so that could have had something to do with it ]

We stayed here , which was small and modest but nice and quite cheap and well placed for the lifts. You eat dinner in a choice of other places nearby (or you could then - perhaps it may only be B&B now). My main criticism was I did find the beds a bit hard, but I admit some people thought they were OK.
