Only realised that my ski holiday is booked and I have an ingrown toe.
Well ive had it for quiet some time. Question is should I be able to ski ok with this or will it cause me serious issues?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

artweek, If it gets infected it will cause serious issues. If it is not at the septic stage it is quite a sinple task for a chiropodist/podiatrist to cut it out for you and relief should be instant. They have a nasty habit of recurring (depending on the initial cause) and if this is the case you may need a very minor op but this can take six weeks or so to heal so I wouldn't go down that route before your holiday, if it can be avoided.
Make sure the person you see is state registered.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

artweek, welcome to
When are you going? It could well cause you pain - despite being protected from the outside world in a hard boot, as soon as you ski the pressure is going to hurt.
They are very often infected already and as ickabodblue says, important to see an expert soon. They will advise whether can wait until after your trip. Having them operated on will make it feel more comfortable but you are left with a moderate dressing for at least a week which will get smaller as required but would leave at least six weeks before you go just to be on the safe side.

Cut it out - no toenail is better than an ingrown one.

artweek, If it's not infected and not getting any worse, it would take a decent chiropodist ten minutes to sort it out for you. Then you wouldn't have to worry about it causing you problems on holiday. Feet sweat in ski boots, making the skin moist which makes it easier for the nail to pierce the skin. Also warm, moist, dark environment is ideal breeding ground for infection

I'm in the process of getting mine sorted out - it went a bit manky after I left it oooh, 4 months or so! No need to remove the nail - they just tidy up the edge, remove any pointy bits and then you pop back a month later to make sure it's growing out neatly.

artweek, get an appointment tomorrow. Some of the toes I've seen have been pretty hideous by the time they get to theatre - trust me you don't want that anywhere near your ski hols

Hi
My friend was in a lot of pain with her in-growing toe nail before we went skiing last Jan, She had it done the day before we went the relief was instant.
She skied all week with no problems.
Hope all goes well.

Suffered from these as a teenager. Get treatment sooner rather than later. It will only get worse, infected, and painful. My nail was eventually removed completely (but unsuccessfully) and was very tender for quite some time. If you think about it, toes are used quite a lot when skiing.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Absolutely...... had two removed a few years ago, and it has been a blessed relief ever since. Sure it's painful and fussy ( in terms of changing dressings etc ) for a couple of weeks, but after that, much, much better.
