Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Removing protective wax from skis

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
For the first time I actually applied a thick layer of wax to my skis before consigning them to the attic for the summer. Off skiing this weekend and am wondering:

1. do i just scrape the wax off and go?

2. is there any benefit to running an iron over it, letting it harden again, then scraping?

3. or would it be even better to srape the protective layer off, then apply a hot wax as normal?

please note that I am lazy so am highly unlikely to do anything more laborious than the options listed above Cool

I'd do 1 but being even lazier than you 2 & 3 sound a step beyond. Off to Verbier this weekend?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Arno, laziest way is just to jump on them and ski. Unless your first run is a race. After 2 runs there won't be any difference. One proviso - in certain very cold powdery snow conditions you might just stick to the snow.

I once did a controlled experiment. Scraped one off, left the other. Chucked them down on the snow at random, and clicked in, not knowing which was which. Could I tell the difference on my way down to the chairlift? No.

Mind you, I'm sure there are people who could. wink

By the way, I'm not posing as an expert here. The person who told me to just jump on them and go was my friendly local ski shop man in France, when he'd waxed them up for the summer.

I don't bother unless the snow is very cold and new, in which case I'd warm it up with an iron and scrape it off immediately before applying some cold temps wax.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

thanks all - basically the answer I was looking for. a quick scrape it will be. will hopefully be off piste most of the time so all this stuff makes even less difference there

Laughing how did you guess?
(Actually I did know, thanks to spyderjon, but I think I might have forgotten. But he sold me the right edge tool guide thing so I don't need to know any more).
