Mostly grass...Chamonix if famous for its 610 cm long grass, very specific type that you only find there.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

queen_sheba, I've been several times on May Day Bank Holiday over the years, had amazing powder two years in a row. From memory there has never been less than 1m of snow at the mid station on the Grands Montets and usually at least 3m at the top, last year it was more like 5m+ at the top. Tons of terrain to play in, great spring snow to look forward to it's a great way to finish the season and if I hadn't busted my pesky knees last week I was all set to go again this May - enjoy!

queen_sheba, check out http://www.chamonet.com/snow_report.php if you click on the drop down box you can get photos for any week of the season. Last year was a long season and they could have kept open after the official may close date. May 1st was avi level 3/5 and a powder day!
This year is shaping up to be similar.
