Poster: A snowHead

Road trip to BC from Feb 18th to March 9th. Don't want to commit large chunks of time by booking before know where the powder is going to be. How easy is it to find somewhere at that time of the year with say a couple of days notice or will every where be full? Thinking of visiting usual suspects KH, Revelstoke, Red and Fernie.
thanks all

easy - obviously weekends wil be busier, and fernie likely busier than others, but as long as you aren't fussed about getting the best ski in/out places, then you'll have no trouble. Midweek those places will be pretty quiet on and off hill.
Some good last munite deals appear in early March in BC too, so book as late as possible when you know where the snow will be. That's what I do . All you need is a truck, ski gear and a laptop ....

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

We hired a car and went where we fancied a couple of years ago. We booked the first three nights accommodation (got an amazing deal for Chateau Lake Louise from Lastminute) and then just booked where we wanted on line. We couldn't stay on the mountain at Kicking Horse so stayed at the Ramada ($40 a night including a basic breakfast) in Golden. Also, we wanted to stay on the mountain at Fernie and couldn't get anything for the weekend so changed our plans and went there mid week. We did love the freedom of being able to go where we wanted but actually spent the time we had planned at each resort so could have booked in advance.

How many people? There were 8 of us when we did a roadtrip, so we booked ahead so we could stay together. If there are only two of you , chance it.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

skivor, You will always be able to find a bed somewhere on spec. We're just going to chance it and move on when we like. It wont always be 'on mountain' but as you have a vehicle a short drive wont matter

yep - don't worry about it. Canada and USA are nowhere near as busy as Europe - accommodation options everywhere if you have a vehicle. We've done it with 2 trucks and 8 people. If snow is your main focus, its the way to go.

I think you will be fine. But just a word for others reading and thinking about other dates, 3rd monday in Feb is family day, a stat holiday in alberta and this can affect any resort up until 4-5hrs drive away from calgary really badly. the schools are often shut on the friday as well making that whole weekend expensive and very very busy. This year its monday 16th.
