Poster: A snowHead

Has anything other than the graphic changed on this years K2 Extreme? I was hell bent on getting a pair of Public Enemies this winter and as it's so early in the season there's not a lot of information around about these replacements.
I am also now in the quandary whether to go even fatter and get the Obsethed. I was skiing the Recons last year and for one powder day I skied the Seth Vicious which were amazing in the powder and much better on the piste than I was expecting. Can they really be used as an all-round ski?
The other consideration, the cost of the Obsethed compared to the Extreme is about £150-£200, are they worth the difference?
FYI: I have only skied K2 over the last five years, Crossfires, Recons, SV's and it would take a lot of convincing for me to change to another manufacturer. You stick to what you know and love but I will listen to arguments for other twin tips.
Thank you for any pearls of wisdom you may be able to share.

PowderHunter, yes, same ski apart from the topsheet.
Last year's PEs are still available on Sport Conrad for €199.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Quite a jump from the Recon to the Obsethed, I'd have thought.
Plenty of choice out there and the only K2 I would be interested in trying would be the Coomba.

Don't know about the Obsethed but I've got the Seth Vicous from 2005/2006 in a 189 without the mini rocker and they work really really well all over the mountain - except in icy deep moguls (but that's probably me).
IMHO If you're going for a one ski quiver I'd get the Public Enemy, if you've got a skinny ski already then get Obsethed (or an old SV) for soft snow days.
Cheers

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The Obsethed are fatter then the Vicous..you can pick up the vicous still for fairly cheap..which might be tempting with the Dukes..
I've been riding K2 aswell for the past few years, and if weren't going twin tip would probably buy the new xplorer which looks an awesome ski..and just got best all mountian in falline.
How tall and heavy are you? not sure about the Extreme powder credentials compared to others...
others to consider could be the Scott punisher, line Prophet 90, 4frnt MSP, volkl bridge for TT all mountainy

Thanks for the input guys. Seeing how cheap a pair of last years PEs are I might be able to get them as an all round ski and a powder option as well. The question is, what bindings do you go for and what features are different in each model. It is definitely an area that I've never paid attention to. I would assume that Marker are the Daddy and I like the idea of the ones that can be used for touring as well. Does including that functionality compromise the usual binding performance? Is it like a subscription to the RAC, the majority of people are never going to need it but it's nice to have if you do?
I've narrowed it down to PE, Extreme, Obsether and SV but now the HellBent's are starting to intrigue...

Depends on your thinking... you can use FR+'s or Naxo's for AT and some may suggest that the lighter weight of these types makes them less of a binding for turning bigger boards. The few times I have used them I liked the Naxo better than the FR+ but the Naxo had quite a bit of plastic in them and I am not so sure how durable they would be.
The FR+ are a favourite of lots of AT guys and everyone can bodge a repair on the hill, they say....ha ha
What do you want... a reasonable ski uphill and reasonable downhill, or a butch ski uphill but you get your rewards downhill..????
The Marker Duke is a compromise AT binding but it is much heavier... but it also feels bombproof. The junior Marker Baron has more plastic and is lighter but it still isn't that light. The perceived wisdom of the Marker AT bindings mentioned above is that they are for short hikes and not day trips. If you have Dukes on an Obsethed or Hellbents, I'll guess you aren't going to go too far and that might work..in that it will enable you to skin albeit a compromise effort, IMV.
I have Dukes on a Gladiator at 92mm and they feel pretty damn solid, like an alpine binding...which I like. I don't think I'll be walking any more than an hr on them.
