Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

A snowHead
Hey guys,
I have a 3 and 4 year old I'd like to teach to ski but it's a non starter as I'm on a snowboard. I've had a look around on the internet for a pair of skis, big feet or such that I could use with soft snowboard boots. Do such things exist? I'm out of touch with the lingo so I could just be missing the killer keyword.
Any help gratefully appreciated!
Regards, Mark.

,
Skis with release bindings (and snowblades/big feet) can't be used with soft snowboard boots. Ski boots have hard plastic protusions on the front and back of the soles which fit into the release bindings.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

, why not simply rent some low end skis and boots for £notmuch when out there?
I'm assuming you're not a skier actually, due to the nature of the question, making you perhaps (forgive me) not the best person to be trying to teach someone! Maybe your nippers would be better off being taught in a ski school.

I don't think there is such a thing available... as all skis (even big feet) rely on the forward pressure from the shin area... rather than boards...
When I take my 3 year old out I can keep up by running along - but it is tiring...
If you are going to book them into ski school (which I recommend for both!) then they might be able to get you a good deal for hiring gear in the afternoon when you are with your kids...
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks for the quick replies - I used to be a skiier and the kids will be in ski school but with one of the options we were considering they would be out by 2pm.
I found last year that because of the number of kids in ski school that they didn't get much practice in total, and so was just going to give them a bit of exposure and practice on a gentle slope, and in-between skis seemed like a good option.
Mark.
