Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Le Chinaillon (le Grand Bornand) Ski Instruction

Off to Le Chinaillon next Friday for a week on the slopes. Last couple of years have been on Snowblades, but thinking of going back onto skis this year, which means lessons are in order, as I only a did a week on skis about 4 years ago.

There seems to be a couple of ski schools in Le Chinaillon (ESF and StarSki) but if possible looking for one with either an English Instructor or English speaking Instructor.

Any suggestions from any one on the interweb?

By the way, this is our second year at Le Chinaillon, same dates and same apartment, quite a small resort and I don't think we every queued for more than 1 minute for the ski lifts and drags. Skiing is varied and on one run we didn't see anyone else on the slope from top to bottom. Not too many English people seem to go there either.

We only chose the resort last year (2004) because it was only a short transfer from Geneva Airport, but we seemed to have struck lucky.

jashcroft, I've not used them myself but have friends who have booked their children (two, both under 10) for private lessons with StarSki for the past three years. Both youngsters love their lessons and have progressed rapidly. As with all ski schools a lot depends on the individual instructor but I'd go with StarSki (ESF there may be good also - competing ski schools often have a positive effect on each other - but I've no specific info there).

I've skiied in Le Chinaillon a number of times over the past few years and really enjoy it - if you are confident in the soft stuff you absolutely have to do the runs off le l'achat in fresh snow. For a small resort it has a good variety of runs (great for beginners / lower inters), passable off-piste and a couple of decent Black runs too.

If you've not found it, La Floria (resto at the bottom of the main lifts out of the town) does great pizza!

Might even be there myself on Saturday, en route to Les Arcs (flying late Friday and can't be bothered driving through the night or getting stuck in Saturday traffic!).
