I think I love it all... am feeling snowsick... want to be out there on the snow...
freshly groomed red (with no sneaky ice underneath) with the slope easing to a blue where it hasn't been groomed for a bit of powder that I'm not constantly falling in - although a little bit is quite fun when its all soft and cushiony! Followed by an alcoholic hot chocolate and then back on the lifts to get some more snow! (oh and preferably an almost deserted resort!)

I thought I had captured some of the most common things, but I guess it's one of those topics that is too hard to quantise (?).
Apart from big slushy bumps I love riding a chair out of cloud into a deep blue sky with ice crystals sparkling in the air and a couple of feet of Utah-style powder awaiting me at the top.
Sorry, got all lyrical and couldn't see how to get that into a poll!

mountain mad, Just about defines perfection, oh and dont forget the bit at the bottom of the run where Sharon Stone crashes into you from behind, and as an apology invites you round for home made tartiflette and a full massage just to ease the bruising from the crash. Her luxury chalet is of course ski in ski out and her butler service your skis whilst you service.....................no no no, dont you just hate it when you wake up before the end of the dream

The first run of the year - doesn't matter what it is. Adjusting the goggles, flexing in the boots, putting in a few more turns than necessary to check you can still do it, taking some deep breaths of clean air and looking up at that sky. All the hassle of getting there, the crap transfer and the domestic concerns slip away....

On a similar note I'd add the feeling of anticipation as you're riding the lift up looking down at the slopes you're about to ski.
Or, being out on a glacier in Autumn seeing (hopefully) the snow accumulating on the mountains with the whole season stretched out in front of you.

This is all getting a touch onanistic!
Frosty, I hope you like La Plagne. Jon and I spent some of a day there when we were at Les Arcs last Easter - we took the trip on the Paradiski cable car. We both found it a bit too blue-cruisy for our liking, but then we didn't see much of it. I'm told there is plenty for all to enjoy when yopu get into it.
The problem is that the link via Paradiski is down at 1400 and you seem to spend an age on dull blues to get up to any decent snow.
I know that Jonpim and Kuwait Ian like the place. I'll be interested to see what you think.
Meanwhile back to the self indulgence.... I'll do emerging from the big gondola and stepping out of the lift staion to the sight of miles and miles of people enjoying themselves....

It's definitely clicking into your bindings for the first time of the season, taking that first lift up, and then standing at the top of your first run, taking in the view, the taste of the air and sensing the rising anticipation of the first slide of the year.

Making the first tracks * down a steep slope, when I'm skiing exactly right and it seems effortless: not a human being or ski lift in sight (well, OK, 2 or 3 friends behind, plus our guide, who has brought us to this new slope) with prospects of a long descent, perhaps ending with some tree skiing further down. Oh and new powder all the way would be very nice, of course, thank you.
* I'd allow a few chamoix tracks perhaps

The first morning, up early for breakfast to make sure you make the 1st lift. The thing that does it for me, the thing that triggers my brain into realising i'm on holiday though is the taste of the sun block on my lips. Weird I know.

I quite like the bit when you're on the coach, and you cross the snowline, and you've still got a further 2 hours until you get to the resort, and then the coach has to pull over to put on some snowchains, and...
