Poster: A snowHead

I'm looking to go to Obertauern for the week 13th Dec - 20th Dec - we went the same week last year, booked independently and flew with Ryanair Stansted - Salzburg fairly cheaply, under £200 return for 2 I think. It looks like this year the route doesn't open until later in December, and I'm having trouble finding flights out from anywhere on 13th... kicking myself for not booking from Bournemouth with thomsonfly when I saw them a couple of weeks ago for £87 return for two (same flights now at £577!!) Any suggestions, or will I now be better off booking a package? Can fly from any Southern airport (live in Bath, parents live in Buckinghamshire so access to London airports via there).
I see Ryanair fly to Klagenfurt, return for 2 is currently around £150, but I've looked at the transfers to Obertauern and they're not at all cheap (unlike with the Habersatter taxi service from Obertauern).
Just looking for some advice, as it's only a couple of months away now and getting anxious not having booked any skiing at all for this season yet (been lucky enough to go twice for the last couple of years)

becsinbath, you can do BA Gatwick to Salzburg for about £175 return inclusive on those dates.

BA?
I'm having the same trouble as you. Northern airports are even less well served! Doesn't seem to be anything decent going before the 20th. I'll be sat in Zurich for 4 hours waiting for a transfer
*sighs*

Just for the fun of it I stopped a black cab outside Red 27 Hall and he quoted £576 to Salzburg although he doesn't normally go south of the Rhine.

Really I've just looked and it's coming up as £245 each - saying the outbound flight is in Club class (I assume that's all they've got left)! Don't think I should spend £500 just on the flights, when you can get some package deals for half that per person (but I really, really don't want to go self catering to France, unfortunately!)

Well according to this website (http://www.seat61.com/Austria.htm#Salzburg) it is do-able by train, as follows:
Train times London ► Salzburg:
Travel from London to Paris by Eurostar, leaving London at 18:00 (17:31 on Saturdays) arriving Paris 21:20 (20:53 on Saturdays). The Eurostar arrives at the Gare du Nord, from where it is a 10 minute walk to the Gare de l'Est.
Travel from Paris to Munich overnight by the City Night Line sleeper train 'Cassiopeia', leaving Paris Gare de l'Est at 22:45 and arriving in Munich at 08:58 next morning. This train has sleeping-cars, couchettes and seats, see the photos & information below. Important: On certain dates the Cassiopeia leaves Paris earlier, at 21:45, so double-check times for your date of travel using www.bahn.de/citynightline. On these dates, you'll need to catch an earlier Eurostar from London, at 16:25 arriving Paris 19:47. Click for more pictures and information about this train.
Travel from Munich to Salzburg by air-conditioned 'EuroCity' train (the 'Bartok Bela', with restaurant car) leaving at 09:27 and arriving in Salzburg at 10:54.
errrr think I'll give that a miss!

becsinbath, I'm flying from Gatwick to Salzburg with BA on Dec. 12, returning Dec 20. Going on the Friday is cheaper, but it does mean I have to tolerate one extra day's skiing.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Thanks Ray Zorro. Just looked - I'm sure when I checked before they didn't fly out on 13th - looks like they do and return is £191 each, which isn't too bad I suppose, but I think it's still looking like it will work out cheaper if I go for a package deal.
