Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Im headed out to Morocco beginning of November, i heard that there was some skiing to be had in the atlas mountains.

Might be a nice warm up before the season starts, Anybody know where it is and if November is any good? Very Happy

There are several places to head for in the Atlas, but don't go out expecting a fully serviced, pisted mecca. Look up a decent guide, and be prepared to do a lot of walking/skinning and climbing....I was there in December, so don't know what it'd be like in November. There are some serious touring opportunities, but for the lesser experienced it ain't .....

Would be massively up for some touring but i don't think i will be taking any ski's as i will already be taking the surf board, skis might just be too much to carry around. Puzzled

Very interesting, looks like not so good in November, still definitely worth a go if not just to see the Moroccan ski team training. snowHead

I was thinking of heading up there anyway so will definitely go now.

I've seen the lifts at Oukaimeden, and I'm not sure that I'd entrust myself to them; apparently, uplift by donkey or mule is possible. The pisted skiing is very limited (I've no idea about anything else) and snow is unreliable (although it snowed a couple of days after we were there, in late October). The resort itself is not somewhere I'd rush to; there are some fairly up market villas, apparently owned by the great and good of Morocco, and a couple of hotels, including a French Alpine Club place, quite smart. The infrastructure is good by local standards, that is, verging on the non existent, but it's an interesting place to see. There's another resort somewhere in Morocco, but I've no idea what it's like; I believe it's less enticing than Oukaimeden.

Oukaimeden is only 2 or so hours from Marrakesh, a wonderful city, and so a day or o/n trip could be done from there. It's certainly not worth a trip to Morocco on its own. The Atlas mountains in general are well worth a visit.

was there not an episode of Ski Sunday last season where the snowboarder dude went to Morocco and got a guide to take him up the mountain...

There was a lot of walking involved.

Nov will be too early.

The resorts are so far south that the season doesn't really get going until early Jan.

Still worth a visit for the views and novelty.

powderhound23, just to give you a bit of encouragement, I was passing over the atlas on a bus a few years ago in mid Nov and ended up freezing my a*se off as it chucked it down with snow outside! Not totally sure the lifts etc would have been running, but as someone else said I'm sure you could find an enterprising local with a donkey and some old skis for hire Toofy Grin
