Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

"Val d'Isere will rid itself of cars": Jean-Claude Killy

Val d'Isere's most famous and influential son, Jean-Claude Killy - winner of 3 golds at the 1968 Winter Olympics - has committed the resort to ban cars. "We’ve got to do that at some point, we just can’t take it anymore. So we’ve got to build a garage and restrict the circulation" he says.
It's all part of a grand plan to prepare the resort for the 2009 World Ski Championships, which will run men's and women's races on the two opposing 'faces' of the resort - the Bellevarde and the Solaise. [Click below to read on]

The aim is to concentrate all activity within an 800m circle, and enhance the resort environment, though Killy concedes that trees will be felled.

When I was in Val d'Isere last week, they were surveying guests to see if they want the resort to become car free.
