Hans Knauss, super-G Olympic vice-champion from Nagano in 1988 and silver medallist at the 2003 World Championships, has tested positive for nandrolone.
The announcement came in Val Gardena, on the day the authorities disclosed blood tests for the first time in a World Cup event - for a super-G race. Knauss has now withdrawn from Saturday's downhill event in Val Gardena....
The positive result follows tests at Lake Louise in Canada at the end of November.

Other ski racers have now spoken out strongly in support of Hans Knauss. The FIS have raised the possibility that the test result may have been faulty, expressing surprise that Knauss went public to defend himself. However, he presumably had to give some reason for withdrawing from the downhill and merely told the truth about his reason.

Ski Racing magazine reported that he went public after the A sample was positive, but before the B sample had been tested. Under FIS rules there is no compulsion to make public the results of A samples, but apparently Knauss didn't want rumours that "an Austrian DH skier" had tested positive to start leaking out. Apparently he felt this would cast unwarranted doubts on his teammates so decided to go public.
Hope this gets sorted out soon, both for Knauss' sake as well as skiing generally.

A FIS spokesman subsequently expressed "astonishment" that he had spoken out before the 'B' test results had been released, as these could have contradicted the previous positive finding. However talking to an ex-GB racer yesterday at Val, he suggested that there was little chance that the 'B' test result would differ in any significant respect from the first one.

Nandrolone has gained quite a reputation. It is I think one of the few banned drugs that the public knows by name.
There has been a lot of research into this stuff. If you are really fed up with Christmas you could read these 2 reports.
This report from CNN suggests he was only just over the limit and so will no doubt be suggesting he got it innocently.
I wonder if his wife is pregnant and he will try the Boxer Defence
