Poster: A snowHead

Will be up there at some point about 2pm so if anyone's there, say hello. Will be in bright yellowy-green pants with either an orange elan board or a pink stepchild one

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The missus is having a refresher lesson so I thought it would be rude not to take advantage of the spare hour... First time on snow for four months - can't wait!

Today was pants. It was mega-busy this afternoon and the snow was like sand. Newly waxed board and i felt like I was boarding through glue. Plus, half of it was roped off for tobogganing and the tricks were all gated off for the freestyle thing tonight - poor. The missus had her level 4 lesson but the tutor thinks she needs to spend another few hours perfecting her turns. Oh well, at least it's an excuse to go boarding.
It was so busy I managed a grand total of SEVEN runs down the slope, in between the one drag that was open breaking down.
think early bird sessions in the morning are the way forward. Still, my new board proved its worth for £30 so that made me happy...

That's bad luck, it wasn't crowded on the 11th (no queue at all - you could just get directly on the lift. Mind you, we were skiing 10.00 - 2.00, and of course later in the afternoon it gets worse.
Our snow certainly wasn't slow (see my pic below). Was the snow a bit slushy? Someone at MK once told me they add a chemical to the snow to make it freeze easier and this reacts badly with ski wax. Not sure if it is true but I didn't wax my skis having had slow conditions there last year.

snowball, I think later in the day always gets the worse crowds, but yesterday was simply stupid. They only had one drag lift working, which compounded things, and with guys working on the jumps, plus the tobogganing run fenced off, space was really tight.
The snow was typical of indoor stuff but yesterday seemed even stickier, grittier. You know when you get a freeze/thaw effect on pdwder and you get that crust on top, think that but gritty - it's hard to explain.
I kwow on the SCUK forum there are a lot of peeps who are disspointed with the snow at MK recently, saying very much what I've said, plus the fact that it's been thinning out a lot of late because the snow machines have been packing up. I know it's a privilege to have an indoor slope, especially one just 30 mins away, but I can honestly say the quality of the snow has deteriorated over the years. If I were paying the peak rate then i would have been even more cheesed off.
I don't know - maybe it's me being spolit by going away to real snow several times a year, but yesterday seemed bad.
On the upside, the kids were loving it, so at least we have newbies coming through despite the current economic climate,a nd there were a couple of teenagers on boards who were loving it. A few even asked me about what board they should get – felt like a right pro!! Think it must have been the ungainly way I was falling off the rail that did it... or they may have felt sorry for me when i sprained my wrist!!
