jan or feb for banff?

i am looking at possibly going to banff next yr and can either get 2 wks off in jan or 2 weeks off in feb apart from the half term week. i dont know much about banff so i dont know what time of year is best to go concerning the weather. ive heard it gets cold in banff and the snow tends to come later on in the season compared to say whistler or fernie is that true?

I was there late Feb/early Mar last year, weather was perfect for skiing i.e. daytime air temps hovering around 0C on the hill, on sunny days it was warm enough to enjoy lunch on sheltered terraces without a jacket, on bad weather days it wasn't so cold that you didn't want to continue.

In my research before I went, I found out that the Alberta Rockies can get an arctic blast (-35C), or two, or three, through the mid-winter (generally Dec-Jan-mid Feb), when it is nigh on impossible to ski. Of course every winter is different but I would say leave it as late as possible in Feb, consider March and even April too if you can, the season carries on a lot later than Europe (Sunshine Village generally has good conditions until it's mid-May closing dates). The Spring months generally bring more snow too.

go Feb - Dec/Jan are dry and clear and cold. Good if you like blue skies and -20C, but not if you want a deep base and freshies. March is even better ...
