Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi,
Am in a quandry .... last year we took the children then 4 & 5 to Monchavin in France with another family and they went to the Evo2 ski school and afternoon care for a couple of hours ...
The care during and after lessons was fantastic .... this year we are going away on our own and would like to go back to this area to use this ski school but with our budget for a catered chalet we are struggling to find somewhere ... (maybe I am trying to be too cheap !) ...
Was wondering if someone can recommend ski school & resort easily accessable if using the Eurostar ski train thats not mega expensive .... am trying to find a catered chalet for under 400 for adults and with the kids half price .. not half term weeks ... (maybe am asking too much ...!)
We saw ESF last year from a distance and were not very impressed with the care .... My 6 year old will be out on the slopes this year and am being an over protective parent .... and would like a mainly english speaking school that comes highly recommended .... I don'y want her to be put off by her second experiance as will not have her friend this time with her ....
Any suggestions gratefully received ....
Thanks,

dtol, if you check our website - www.tracksvacations.com you'll find weeks available for £345.00 per adult with kids discounts of up to 40%. We're located in La Rosiere, which has a Montagne Famille award and has a number of very good ski schools including Evo2 although we recommend the ESF. La Rosiere is 23 kms from Bourg St Maurice where the train terminates. If you need to contact us for more information we can be reached on info@tracksvacation.com

dtol, Would you not consider self-catering? You would get something good for all of you for a lot less. It means you are more independent and in our experience it's great with children. It also means you can choose when to eat out, lunchtime on the mountain or sampling local restaurants, take away pizza or simple suppers at home.

thanks ... am considering self catering ... its just we are a party of 7 with 3 other adults so am also trying to please them !!
Can anyone recommend any good 3 bed self catering accomadation in Montchavin or Les Coches ... preferably close to the piste or village ... do not want to have to get daily transport to the slopes ...
thanks,

If you don't mind a small resort Sainte foy would be a good bet and premier neige is a good tour operator

dtol,
For quite a few years we ( several families , all ages and abilities ) have been to Peisey-Vallandry - www.peisey-vallandry.com . Or try ( we have not used them ) :
www.plan-peisey-accommodation.co.uk
We have stayed self catering in a superb large chalet in Vallandry and ( about 4 times ) in the Hotel Vanoise in Plan Peisey - 2 star but excellent value, nice people etc. The hotel is ski in/out which we have found is especially welcome with children.
Also in Peisey there are a few catered chalets - possibly not on the above website as they are run by a couple of the smaller UK family chalet companies as opposed to French companies.
Plan Peisey is no more than 30 mins from BSt M - and there is a back road all the taxis use to avoid the crush on the main road.
As to ski-school we used ESF in Plan Peisey and Vallandry and found them fine for adults and kids , both group and private lessons. My daughter in particular rates the off piste she did as the best ever . PP is quite high , at 1600m , and we have found snow sure.

We went to La Rosiere last year and found it excellent for a family - it had enough range of pistes to keep us all entertained, a snow park etc and was a very friendly destination. As has already been said, it's close to Bourg St Maurice if you are going by train. We used Evo2 for a couple of private lessons and found them excellent - we wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. We took a last minute package which worked out quite good value for a chalet but you could consider self-catering if you want cheaper/more flexible.
