Hi all. I am new to this forum so treat me gently!! We are 4 families who are looking for a ski resort and hotel/chalet that is good for children. We usually ski in France but would like a change this year. Last year we had a good hotel in La Plagne which was fantastic with the kids ie they kept them most of the day, providing lunch and 2 sets of lessons per day, so we only had to be back around 5.00pm on 3 of the days. There must be some good family hotels out there. We don't mind what country it is. I know this is a tall order but if anyone has any ideas that would be fantastic. Thanks.

I have copied this quote that I made on a similar thread...
The ultimate family hotel has to be the Bellevue - Maerchen hotel in Braunwald (a small resort 2hrs by train from Zurich), the owners are so family orientated that it was a real children's playground .
From the animals in their petting zoo to the step in reception so the kids can see what is happening, they are so child-orientated. There was a swimming pool with monkey bars over the top + slide into it, a huge games room (for kids of all ages), electronic games room, another room with bouncy castles, if your kids didn't want to ski, there was the free use of a nanny in the hotel to look after any non-skiing kids in the mornings. My children loved the fact that there was a slide from 1st to ground so they didn't have to go down the stairs, there was a storytime (by the hotel owner - in English and German), and the thing my kids really loved was that at breakfast you got your milk by twisting the udders of a full-size wooden cow in the dining room. The hotel laid on free use of a horse and cart to take the kids the 500m to the ski slopes (there and back). The details are here.
As it was 4*, it was good for the adults too, including a wellness centre and excellent food.

Snowbidd, you should have a look at La Rosiere, it has a P'tit Montanardsaward which means it's good for kids. Not many hotels but lots of chalets. it's Ski Espirit's most popular resort. You might also want to have a look at our website www.tracksvacations.com where there are lots of links to the resort, ski schools etc., we recommend Les Galopins who take kids from 18mths to 12 yrs up to all day.

Snowbidd, as an alternative - have you tried any of the family orientated ski specialist companies like Ski Esprit etc?

Would normally find a subtle way of recommending myself but as you are looking outside France have a look at http://www.kinderhotels.co.uk/. Have heard a few good things and the focus is 100% on families.

David@traxvax, How good is La Rosiere for absolute beginners and someone, don't laugh...., that is affraid of chair lifts and will only do drags?

stortfordhal, there are a few drags, which we normally try to avoid, there are a couple which can't be avoided, the bellecote lifts into Italy. I would recommend La Rosiere as one of the best resorts for beginners, we've had lots of guests who've come out as absolute novices and have been able to ski to Italy and back within a week. There are 3 very good ski schools and a number of independent monitors in the village, if your friends will only ski drags then they'll restrict themselves but it's possible to use only drags and still get a reasonable amount odf skiing.
