Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

ski recommendation please?

Hello,

I have had a look through other posts but haven't been able to find anything that answers my question, now i am fully aware that is probably because i am being a mong, but thought id go ahead and ask anyway!.....

I am looking for a new pair of skis that are perfect for touring and off-piste, but also able to handle on-piste conditions when i am with people not into going off the beaten track as it were.

Any suggestions?

(Sorry for the ramble, i am obviously more tired than i thought)

Thanks!

i would like input on the length of a piece of string wink

what sort of touring do you do? are you looking for something quite lightweight for hut to hut and peak bagging or are you more of an hour from the top of the lift type of person? i have 3 pairs of skis with touring bindings on:

194 Legend Pro XXLs with Marker Dukes
186 Legend Pro with Dukes
Blizzard Titan 9 with Dynafits

wouldn't want to go too far uphill with the first two, although they are fine for up to an hour; the latter i have used for some pretty long days. they aren't super light weight but I don't think I'd really get on with a very light touring ski when it comes to downhill. they are very nice to ski in all conditions including piste

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Mine
174Soft Bros with Duke bindings
They handle on piste just fine, are okay in moguls(though they don't excel there) and LOVE it when the snow gets deep and the terrain gets rough!

beefmaster2000,

Sparks... Light ski which can handle the piste well enough. 82mm waist so good-ish in soft and deep stuff, although you will not gun them really hard and fast, but as an all round compromise, a pretty tough ski to beat, IMV
