johnboy, photos no 1, 2, 5, 6 and 8 are taken by me with an Olympus C-7000 - one of the better compacts I could buy 2-3 years ago.
No. 3,4 and 7 are taken by one of the others on the trip, with a Canon Powershot S5IS.
afcbtim, I never answered your question about how many takes to get good photos. It depends on the skier as well as on the photographer.
Of the action shots, the two better skiers in our group averaged 1 really good and one good one in 5 or 6 takes.
