Maybe "Riccardo, enjoying the powder at Brevent, Chamonix" could explain

I think he went deep and has just burst through the surface.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Or he could have been launched from a submerged snow cannon.

I think he's trying to gain a bit of alititude, using 'air skins' under his skis.

That's a good idea - a 'hole in the floor' where you don't have to take your skis off. After all, you don't have to take the wheels off a train to use the toilet.

David Goldsmith, that's because the toilet's on the train. You'd need the toilet on the skis to make that comparison valid. I'm not saying that's a bad idea though....

Mark, somewhere in my collection of ski trash I have a poster from Colorado of a skier sitting on a toilet in the middle of a ski run.
The caption says "Ski the Rockies. We have the runs."
Related joke: Mark, are those the famous 'back bowls of Vail'?

I was told a story, possibly apocryphal, of a lady in a group lesson who was caught short. She skied into the trees and to save time time decided she didn't need to release the bindings. Seconds later, she was sliding backwards onto the piste (as it were)...
