Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Val d'Isère - the snow arrives with a vengeance

click to see high res imageFrom one extreme to the other... this photo (right) of the funitel at Val d'Isère at lunchtime today (Saturday). The overnight storms brought heavy snowfall combined with wnds gusting close to 100 mph (even ripping away the World Cup start hut and sections of safety netting). As a result, from a situation of multiple piste closures due to lack of snow last week, many pistes on the exposed slopes had to remain closed today because of the extreme weather.

Reported on snowRacers, the women's World Cup downhill was somewhat inevitably cancelled. Officials remain publicly optimistic, but the whisper is that even though winds are expected to die down overnight, organisers will be hard pressed to prepare a satisfactory race surface with up to another 40 cms expected tonight.

click to see high res imageA disaster for the Val d'Isère race committee maybe, but a huge collective sigh of relief from all the resorts around the northern French Alps, the snow arriving just in time for Christmas week.

More images taken today at Val here.
