Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Skiopen - " FFS " and " Benjamin Dame "

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
All,

My daughter has just got a listing in the ESF run Skiopen. However we have no idea what the above terms mean - can anyone explain them and how the FFS points are calculated ?

Also she did it twice this season at both Tignes and Courchevel - are both results aggregated or what ?

Many thanks

John

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

I'm not familiar with ski racing, but I think these terms actually mean:

Federation francaise de ski (excuse lack of accents etc) and

Youngest Female (class, presumably)

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Not familier with ESF technicalities (it was a longtime agao when I was using them but as per what Hurtle says.

FFS is french ski federation

"Benjamin" is often used to describe the youngest child in a family , but in general is used to decribe someone "junior" and is very widely used in sport to describe young/children classes/categories/leagues

"Dame" refers to you daughter being female. Although this is quite funny because Dame often implies a certain minimum age so that benjamin and dame somehow sounds contradictory..but we get the gist.. Toofy Grin

You need to Login to know who's really who.

Benjamin refers to kids born 1995 or 1996.

The points and various levels are here: http://www.esf-isola2000.com/uk/tests.htm - they use the FIS or SkiOpen points of the instructor or whoever opens the course to calculate what the no 1 ranked French skier would have obtained (temps du base IIRC) and then calculate the percentage you are over this time. The percentage over the time is the points allocated.

I'm not sure how your overall points and hence French ranking works out, and whether it's averaged out over your best two results or something similar to FIS or BASS/ESC points. It can be a bit random, as I remember a fleche test in Courchevel when the instructor cruised down, only to find a number of cat-suited teenagers training for the upcoming English Alpine Champs entered for the race, some of whom beat not only the instructor but also had times below the calculated temps du base. Cue one annoyed instructor, who stormed back to the top of the course for another run, only to wipe out car-boot-sale stylee half the way down.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

When she did the fleche she should have got a medal of some kind to show what level she was and also a book which the results are entered into. This booklet or the notes that come with it do explain how the points system in France works. What score did your daughter get, if it was gold standard she could qualify for the ESF champs. You need to speak with the ski school if you want her to go any further if she did well enough.

Yes she did get a bronze medal and I think the booklet - will have a look for it.

Many thanks,
