Poster: A snowHead

Trying to get away for a weekend, preferably skiing, at the first May bank holiday (Friday 2-Monday 5 May). Was thinking about Cervinia. Will it be closed?
Where is open at that time of year?

Just looked at Cervinia and it closes on 27 April. Anywhere else? I know there is usually a thread on Resort closing dates - maybe I can't find it.
Thanks

According to their website, the season ends on 27th April in Cervinia.
By May, it is mainly only Glacier resorts that are open in Europe.
If you are looking at a weekend, you want somehwere with reasonably short transfers. I would suggest Stubai or Hintertux might suit, flying to Innsbruck. Although you will also have the issue that airlines will not be on winter schedules by then.

In chamonix they phase the closing. Brevent and le Tour finish 27th April, flegere keeps some lifts open until the 5th May for tourers, Grands Montets closes 11 May. Conditions are good and its snow today.

jb1970,
Your in Glasgow so how many weekends have you skied in Scotland this year? Your leaving it a bit late, but Bob said Cairngorm plans to be open that May weekend and there should be plenty of snow bar a raging Southwesterly with stupidly warm temps and lots of rain. The Coe and Nevis will be closer, and if they snow is still decent I guess they will still be open, but i don't know for sure.

The main runs of Tignes are open until 4.5.08 and the glacier until 11.5.08.
Most runs (and the links to Val D'Isere) are open now. Given the current conditions (2m of snow in the last 10 days according to the Tignes website) and forecast (freezing level between 800m and 2000m) - most will stil be open in a couple of weeks time for skiing at the start of May.
I was there the same time last year (going back this May too) - totally deserted pistes. Amazing!!

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

The links to Val D'Isere are open until 4th - after that it's glacier and whatever else depending on snow conditions - which at the moment is promising quite a bit.
