Hi,
just about to book my skiing trip for next year with crystal, does anyone know whether transfers are included in their prices? I mean..there is an optino at the end for private transfers..what does that mean? do you want transfers? or would you like your own private transfer?

Went with crystal to Zell Am See on Easter Saturday. Coach transfer was included. As far as I am aware private transfer means just that. You get your own taxi but you have to pay for it. By the way where are you going?

Coach transfers are included with Crystal, unless it says otherwise.
The "private transfer" option is for a taxi transfer, private to your group, and is not going to be cheap.

I think the norm with TOs is that a group transfer is included unless it specifically isn't. The booking procedure on Crystal's web site doesn't make it clear, but I think that the option at the end of the procedure is to select a (fantastically expensive) private transfer instead of the group transfer.
The group transfer will nomally be by bus, and will almost certainly take passengers from more than one flight. The private transfer will be by minibus or possibly taxi (or helicopter, if you really push the boat out).
Pros of group transfer: cheapest option. Cons: waiting around for other flights, slow journey, dropping other people off in resort before you (you're always last), irritating rep trying to flog you stuff you don't want for more than you could buy it for yourself if you did, ridiculously early start from resort back to airport, other people.

I think we'll just do the group transfer as it's cheaper and we're on a budget!
If anyones been to Courchevel and has any tips for 6 competant skiiers then it'd be much appreciated. We're looking at getting a guide for a day as we've all only skiied in the three valleys once and want to get the most out of the holiday. So any adivce on the average cost?

haha, well i suppose its not budget..i dunno! We're paying £845 each (including ski hire, ski pass, apartment accomodation, flights, transfers). So the only other things we'll have to pay for are food and drink (i dont underestimate the price of either dont worry! haha) Looking at about £250 each for food and drink for the week. We'll only eat out on the last night, and have lunch on the slopes (again..the price will be VERY high).
The holiday isn't booked yet so im open to suggestions if people dont think im getting value for money. I looked into brides les bains, but we all thought it was too inconvenient. We want to be able to walk/ski into our accomodation. And the skiing must be excellent.
Anyone know much about getting back to 1550 after a night out in 1850?

We went to Courcheval with Crystal a couple of years ago. Transfer was included but flight to Chambery was cancelled so had to transfer from Geneva instead which was considerably further.
Then when we arrived the transfer arrangements were chaos. It took 3 different buses, 5 and a half hours, an hour spent standing in the cold at Moutier, and a fight over too few seats to get there. NEVER AGAIN!!!
I would not rely on Crystal transfers again. They didn't even think it was reasonable of us to complain. If you can possibly afford it I would suggest that you make your own arrangements.
We stayed in 1550. We didn't have problems getting back by bus at night but don't know how late they run.

went in feb this year. was very expensive as others have indicated. in fact this somewhat spoiled the "buy a beer on the mountain" aspect of the trip since I was too concerned that I'd be charged way over the odds for a beer and chips. went with crystal full board so most meals were in the hotel anyway. there is a bus which runs from 1650 to 1850 and back in the evening - pretty easy to spot it and get on - it's free (probably the only thing that is).
i was on a snoworks course so we did lots of skiing with them - went to val thoren and back off piste etc.
transfer from chambery was ok - although i was on the last flight and I believe others had waited a long time on the coach for my flight. we stopped at Moutier too to transfer some others to another coach. overall, for me it was not a bad transfer.
it's a great place but way over priced. for that reason I would be unlikely to return unless I had serious money to burn. people in our hotel went out for an "average evening meal" and spent over £100 per head.
