Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Take a look on the various tour operator web-sites, IgluSki, ski-deals etc etc. There will almost certainly be something left if you're flexible with your accommodation needs.

Apparently not possible, nothing left for Easter week for 2 adults and 1 child according to the lady I spoke to at Ski Solutions, the 'specialist ski travel agency', today Shocked

I asked for anything, anywhere, flying from anywhere or driving, for the 3 of us in a relatively child friendly resort. She told me there is nothing left at all with any operator. I find this hard to believe. I thought Ski Solutions would be really good but I have to say I was disappointed by that, because I really can't believe it's true.

I am having trouble persuading hubby for next week as he's got a bad knee so I was kind of hoping to get an offer he couldn't refuse but no luck Sad

Gotta say there's last minute and there's LAST minute! Leaving it to the Wednesday before Easter Friday could be classed as BOLD or possibly a tad foolish depending on how much you want to go skiing Confused Madeye-Smiley

"English" widely spoken.
I'm sure you'll find somewhere to stay within shortish driving distance.

I am totally serious.

If we weren't flying to Switz' this evening we'd be driving to Scotland (for the first time).

Have you tried booking accommodation and driving rather than flying ... I'm sure there's small companies out there with availability. It will be the flights that are the problem. Just a quick check on the web shows availability for 22nd March in Montchavin les coches with a chalet company I've stayed with before - Ski Lasource.

There's a heap of us heading up to Nevis this weekend for the ski test there and there's 3 ski areas in easy reach - 10 mins to Nevis, 30 mins to Glencoe and 50 mins to Cairngorm.

Try an enquiry via http://www.chaletfinder.co.uk/ - they'll bung it out to thier advertisers and even very very last minute there will be something out there. Someone is bound to have space or have had a last minute cancellation.

The same seems to be true of much of the Alps. I am as excited as the next person about loads of fresh snow, but it has to be said that high winds, very low temperatures and nil visibility do make life very difficult for anyone but the most hardened skiers. Skiing a little later, when there will be loads of snow, and hopefully some better weather, would be a far better bet and you'd have loads of choice.

Worst case scenario:

Flight to Grenoble, youth hostel in Grenoble and first coach transfer to Alp D'Huez, last transfer back.

Flight to Geneva, youth hostel in Geneva and first coach transfer to Chamonix, last transfer back.

Alternatively stay in a village or town near to the resorts such as Moutiers, Albertville, Bourg etc etc

Doesn't seem to stop them in the states, in fact in Mammoth last month they were positively whooping for it when it was like that and couldn't get up the lifts quick enough - I'm seriously starting to think the Alps has made a lot of people soft including myself sometimes!

Got to agree , the best point about this type of weather is that most holiday Brits stay off the mountain Toofy Grin Leaving it all for the skiers who dress for the weather.

Can be done!

We went Sat 22nd-29th, booked on the Thursday afternoon! Drove overnight on Friday as we were on a budget - think you could have got flights/trains but not cheap last minute! Found ourselves an apartment in Les Menuires (there were plenty going even at that late stage) and enjoyed the awesome powder!
