Last season I used this website weekly to check the snow in various resorts. After checking the webcams for these resorts after the snow had been forecast I could not help but feel as though the website is just trying to tell us what we want to hear - SNOW, SNOW, SNOW. . .
The webcams and the resort snow reports suggested that the information from J2ski.com was not accurate. If you compare the forecasts on J2ski.com and compare them with other sites such as accuweather.com I'm sure you will find a big difference.
Has anyone else had a similar experience.

Matt Exley, In a word .. No! For total inaccuracy , it's better to pay Snowforecast.com ..

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Weather forecasts aren't all going to. If its snow in centimetres taht you're worried about being predicted different levels of snow fall. The amount of snowfall that one place recieves is very unpredictable. Even the snow depth can be taken at different sites which leads to differences between sites.
It has snowed throughout the alps, so conditions are good.
Ive never used J2ski for forecasts only for general information on resorts.

I appreciate what you're saying, maybe I didn't make it clear enough about how bad it actually is. They will forecast snow, then when you look on the webcam and every other weather report, it shows that it's been suny all day.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I've found it pretty reasonable for Canada this season. Sometimes better than the local forecasts.

All weather-forecasting sites are just guessing.
Better to surf 4 or 5 sites and take an average from them all.
J2ski is typically toward the high end of estimates, but not overly so.

Do you do it deliberately, or is it just a natural talent?

You'll get to see more forums and be part of the best ski club on the net.

read the Beginners guide to GFS in the snow reports thread, and then you can see
a) where they get it from
b) how massively it changes every 6 hours
c) how it was much easier years ago without the web and only ceefax and hope to rely on!!
Cheers,
Greg

Matt Exley, I watched it more closely last year in the lead up to Saalbach, green green grass for weeks.... but it did predict the only dump of the month last Jan pretty much spot on... didn't tease as much as some of the other sites... didn't really need to bother this year as there was plenty of snow in Avoriaz before I went but it got it spot on then too.... might just be a lucky visitor i guess.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

or maybe I was just an unlucky visitor, doesn't really look like anyone else has had too many problems with it.

Whitegold, you're right. I work in a company developing weather radars and other forecasting equipment. Weather forecasting is always providing the "best guess"

You know it makes sense.

As a comfort to Whitegold's and marko.pyhajarvi's views, just picked these words of wisdom up off the net:

It's kind of a nice idea - and oh so easily believable.

Why are you surprised that websites have agendas ...like selling ad space, selling a dream etc, blah....but mostly selling something..???
Not many are as benevolent as you'd like to think. There is always an angle somewhere
