Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Last weekend, with the avy risk at 4, we headed up to spot X, some low angled between the trees action on telemark. Not that easy to make progress given the meter of hyperlight powder that had dumped overnight. Anyway a little video to amuse you...

Yes more speed would have been very welcome but the powder was holding us back and we're not pro skiers (Luc only took up telemark this year) and... well I was on skinny skis and and and.... Embarassed

Apoligies to Steve Harley for content theft, although I suspect he has amortized that song by now, but maybe I can make amends by suggesting a Cockney Rebel anthology

The Cream of Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel

davidof, great stuff. Bit unfair of me alluding to Cockney Rebel being in DG's time without admitting it was also not before mine. I am glad your generation enjoys them too.

davidof, excellent. Sat here at my desk, under the auspice of doing some work and thought how much fun that looked. Really must try and ensure that the next time I decide to have an off-piste lesson, I do in fact stick to it rolling eyes

Yup, Lizzie at Dynafit offered to lend me some Manaslus ski - 95 mm underfoot. That would have been THE ski for the conditions. Instead I had a 175cm ski with 66mm underfoot. Skullie (my fats were in Geneva).

I feel like the idiot at Decca records who turned down the Beatles because "boy bands had run their course". Shocked

Great video. Since I've never even tried Telemarking I can hardly carp. Fredi, our Guide last week in Engelberg was sometimes on Teles (even once in zero visibility in the cloud in a snowstorm - which is a challenge to ballance anyway, so he did fall over once or twice)

I enjoyed watching that - 4 is a fairly high avalanche warning isn't it? but there did seem to be quite a big group of you and you were in the trees so perhaps it was fairly safe. That was deep snow - Do you have to keep the weight more off the tips of the skis when you ski in conditions like that?

You have to put a little more pressure on tyour heels somthimes referred to as sitting back more than you would in normal conditions and you have to bounce like a bunny to turn getting the knees to the mountain and the body down the fall line.Got a great tip years ago about treating the skis as a trampline for the turns and popping the body up Hard to explain but makes sense when you see it.

If you take to much wait off the tips you will lose control as on piste it is all about adjusting to the conditions and the lie of the land under the skis. Best feeling ever though almost weightless in the snow Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Megamum, in general keep your weight over the middle of your foot on all occasions. If the skis are diving and you are being slowed too much by the deep snow you may want to bring the weight back a bit (and in very heavy wet snow off piste, and the end of a turn for advanced racers) but that is all for more advanced skiers - don't let it confuse the general rule.
