Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Back from Banff

Well Im pleased I listened to everyone who suggested I still go skiing even with the bad knee. Had a great time in and around Banff, the knee seemed fine when skiing just a problem walking around the town Smile

As we had our own transport we were able to venture further afield and skied Kicking Horse twice and made it to Revelstoke for a day too - what a place, virtually untouched as yet and the 10 inches of fresh stuff helped along with uncrowded pistes Toofy Grin

Skiing on the first day was a nervous experience, not knowing how the knee would be, but as the days progressed so did my enthusiasm for fun. I had vowed to stay on green runs and possibly venture to blue only. We ended up skiing virtually everything, hitting blacks, double blacks in places, bowls and glades. the only thing I wouldnt allow myself was jumps. SWMBO caught me looking at a couple but admonished me quickly. I will say that the knee did help me in moguls, as when I skied them I took them very slowly, thus hopefully improving me technique in them Smile

All in all a great trip, with the only spoiler the accommodation which was very poor.

Thanks again all those who told me to go anyway Toofy Grin

Good to hear you had a great time and your knee held up. Where were you staying that the accommodation was so poor?

Bones, glad to hear it was a good trip and that you made the most of the terrain. KH is fantastic isn't it? I'm envious you got to Revelstoke - next time we are over there it will be done.
Sorry the accom was poor - unusual for Banff, as cathy has asked - where did you stay, name it and alert other snowHead

Accomm was unfortuantely the Crystal chalet they have over there - Rocky Mountain. they list it as a 3* and I found out Canadian tourist board list it as 2* Never had a problem before with their chalets and thought this should be ok. Tried getting a move but they were adament unless we coughed up the extra - will be in further discussions with Crystal at a later date and unfortunately the bathroom we had apart from being crap breaches UK Health and Safety laws which I pointed out adn still they didnt do anything.

ski-finder, Got loads of piccs, what/where would you like them of wink

shoogly, Revelstoke is approx 4 hrs drive away, we drove to Kicking Horse to ski, then drove to Revelstoke and stayed over, skied the next day - fresh powder Very Happy then drove back to Kicking Horse stayed the night and skied the next day. Can give you details of places to stay and costs if you want just let me know, its a decent road and easy drive. Will post a resort review later when I get chance, as will pics. Smile

ski-finder, k m8 will get some uploaded shortly and will post/let you know when sorted. Too knackered atm Smile

Spoke to some of the ppl working there including a bit of a discussion with the guy in charge of the mountain - they exceeded the total visitor capacity expected ( 52000) in Feb and were hitting 70 000 when we went.
Next year is the year to go asthey are putting in three new lifts and opening up more terrain as well as building accommodation. The following year due to the way the building projects are going they wont have enough beds in the resort or town to satisfy demand Shocked

Having been there what they have planned looks good, but i think in away it will be sad and Im pleased we decided to go this year. Its going to be big business and a great resort unfortunately they will ruin what is a unique experience. But were hoping to get back there hopefully sooner rather than later. Its certainly going to put the town squarely on the map and generate a lot of money in the town.

Bones, cool... I don't mind waiting. Although I don't know why I do it to myself... no ski trips planned any time soon and with an expectant wife probably unlikely to get a trip next season either...

Bones, I think you are right in that a unique experience will have gone. All the locals we spoke to in Banff in Jan 08 said get there now before it changes - we are soooooooo envious, good on you for doing it before mass comercialism takes place!

they are currently renovating there, so if you get a room close to renovations it can be noisy
