Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

First Freeride world champions named today

The first ever Freeride world championship culminated today in Verbier (Switzerland). The best extreme skiers and snowboarders in the world took part in the finals. Henrik Windstedt (Sweden) and Elyse Saugstad (US) won the men’s and women’s ski freeride title, respectively, while Xavier de le Rue (France) and Ruth Leisibach (Switzerland) won the snowboarder’s titles. The event took place on the mythical North Face of the Bec des Rosses, a dauntingly steep and frighteningly jagged 500m rock face. In some places the face is at an angle of 55° and the competitors reached speeds of more than 100 km per hour. ...Since January, four other events for the championship have taken place all over the world, including in Russia and the U.S. The winners are chosen based on their mountain skills – their control, fluidity and ability to do jumps.

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Sounds like some word play here. The freeskiing world tour has been going for years with many world champions - such as Manu Gaidet. What has happened is that a different organisation has taken over running the events in 2008 and freeskiing has changed to freeriding but it is the same riders, in some cases the same events etc.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I watched the competition broadcast live on the web this morning and it took place on Mont Gele.

I was in Verbier from 8th Match until 15th March. The event was moved at the 11th hour due to the conditions. As far as I can tell there'd been very little snow for a few weeks - then it dumped on the Tuesday and Wednesday which although great for us mere mortals isn't the best preperation for a 55degree rock face.
We were up at Bec des Rosses on Friday and they were moving the big screen and PA system etc - this was as late as 1pm on Friday so they did well to get it going at all.

The decision to use Mont Gele was taken on the 13th March, as shown here on their own website.

Sat and watched the event from the bar/restaurant at the top of Attelas, it was amazing to watch these maniacs in action , a great way to round off the holiday. Having the event in town really brought the place alive!
