Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

hi - we are heading off Friday...to go... somewhere.
Courtesy of a snowhead advice - we were going to try Ischgl - but the snow report there doesnt look great... so we were contemplating Zermatt.
Will we be able to ski to Cervinia? Anyone know?
Also - how many of the mountain restaurants are likely to be open
Any advice would be most welcome
xx

I would have thought so.

The "Border" is crossed at the top of this lift into Zermatt. You come into Cervinia from another slightly higher prosition further along the ridge.

(This is looking from the Cervinia side)

jayne, the Zermatt and Cervinia websites give comprehensive info on which lifts are open. These are the pages to use:
Zermatt...Cervinia
You should have a fighting chance of completing the Zermatt-Cervinia link both ways - it was open the last time I skied there in early December.
The snow cover looks slightly thin at the moment - though it's a bit better in Cervinia.

Yea it's open. I was up there 2 weekends ago and we boarded down both sides. Tons of snow falling there at the moment so hopefully it'll be good at the weekend. The link above is a good one.

As for restaurants I would go to the one at Cimie Bianche. Got a huge amount of lasagna quite cheap the last time. Don't eat on the Swiss side unless you've got cash to blow.

BTW I'm not 100% sure if the run from Plan Maison to Cervinia is open at the moment. I would expect it to be open for Saturday

well back from Cervinia and here's a quick summary.

Snow condition is very good at the moment. Didnt spend much time on the main 3 lifts but there was plenty of untracked powder to fish out on Saturday. Glorious day too not a cloud in the sky. Sunday was the same except WAY more people around. It was really busy. I spent the morning on the Valtourneche (sp?) side which was quiet but still good conditions and the afternoon on the Zermatt side. On the Zermatt side the piste below Tronkner Steg was poor, very hard packed and icy. Incidently the snow cover/condition on the Cervinia side was far better than on the Zermatt side.

Unfortunately with no snow forecast for this week I think next weekend could be quite hard packed
