stupid question number two
historically, is verbier any good firsgt or second week of april for a late season weekend?
apologies, but thanks for any help received.
cheers

mr ted, Q1: I think that it's busy anywhere Brits go in significant numbers. Parts of France and Austria often have hols at that time, as do other Euro countries (Sweden seemed to have a hol this year at our kids' half term), which obviously doesn't help. France is probably the worst because of its popularity with Brits and the French hols. I imagine that the smaller resorts, not so beloved of Brits, are less crowded than the usual suspects.
Q2: No idea.

We always go to Verbier for the last weekend in April, closing weekend.
Last year, limited skiing (but plenty for a weekend) and slushy. Had a great time watching folks waterski the melt lake in Lac de Vaux (not The Lac de Vaux!)
Year before had fantastic conditions, as good as anytime in the season.
Both times it has been a wonderful weekend, very mellow vibe on the mountain and in town.

Stayed in Nendaz from 14th april in 2000 for a week. The skiing over in the whole Verbier area was still very good. I don't know what it has been like since....

mr ted, Q1 it also means British TOs put their prices up for those weeks.
Q2. I love it here in April, always plenty of skiing and it quite often snows. As it happens I have some space in April... PIMP me, I mean, PM me if you want details...

Not so, this is never the case in half term (though yes, they are all off for Christmas and New Year). The French half term holidays are always spread over 4 weeks, of which the two Paris weeks are the most crowded, and with the worst behaved and least courteous skiers. (In places with big Brit Tour Operators, the Brits are generally the worst behaved....)
Small French resorts, where no Brit packages go, will be less busy, but still best avoided unless you have no choice. I suspect that providing you avoid Fasching (I don't know when that is, and presumably it changes, with Easter) Austria might be better. Not St Anton though. Is St Anton ever quiet?

I doubt it. My recollection from when I was there in a non half term week years ago is that it was pretty damn busy. However, they cope well with the crowds, and given that you're never going to find quiet skiing at a major Euro resort at half term, it's not bad. Rendl, for example, was postively quiet during w/o 09.16.02.08.

You're welcome, sounded like you were 'thinking' rather than 'booked'. You'll have a great time, no worries.

You know it makes sense.

mr ted, gotcha - you were just asking about conditions in April, rather than if Verbier was the right resort...
